A useful fit for

A documented LXT hammer-drill kit for a buyer who wants two named 2.0Ah batteries and a DC18RC charger in the same XPH10R package.

The main tradeoff

The XPH10 is brushed rather than brushless, the listed 3.4-lb weight is with a battery, and 7-3/4 in is overall length rather than head length. The manual's material, bit and hammer-mode safety limits still govern the task.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Which LXT batteries and charger are in the XPH10R box?

Makita's exact XPH10R Includes list names two 2.0Ah BL1820B batteries and one DC18RC charger, along with a belt hook and tool case. Recheck the suffix and model labels on the seller's package; the related XPH10Z is tool-only.

Does this package document hammer drilling?

Yes. The XPH10 manual lists hammer-drilling mode and up to 28,500 blows per minute; its table gives 1/2-in concrete capacity. Those are maker specifications, not a universal safe-hole guarantee. Use the specified carbide-tipped bit, secure the work and follow the manual's sudden-twist warnings.

Is the XPH10R chuck rated at least 1/2 in?

Makita's product page states a 1/2-in chuck, and the parts list identifies a 13-mm keyless chuck. This is the shank-opening limit; separately follow the manual's capacities for steel, concrete and wood.

The XPH10R is Makita's 18V LXT compact 1/2-in hammer driver-drill kit. Its U.S. product page lists the XPH10Z drill, two BL1820B 2.0Ah batteries, a DC18RC rapid charger, belt hook and tool case. That makes this an assessment of the exact R package, not a claim that every XPH10 listing includes those items. The separate XPH10Z page labels its model tool-only and excludes battery and charger.

One machine with three documented modes

The XPH10 manual describes rotation-only drilling, screwdriving through an adjustable clutch, and hammer drilling. The two-speed transmission is listed at 0–600 rpm in low and 0–1,900 rpm in high; hammer mode is listed at up to 9,000 and 28,500 blows per minute respectively. Makita reports 480 in-lb maximum torque. These are published specifications, not independently measured output or a promise that the drill will maintain those figures under a particular load.

Its 1/2-in chuck sets the maximum bit-shank size the chuck can hold; it is not a hole-diameter rating. The manual separately lists 1/2-in capacity for steel and concrete and 1-1/2 in for wood, with screw-driving limits in its own table. Match the correct bit type and material capacity rather than reading one number across every job. The manual calls for a tungsten-carbide-tipped bit in hammer mode, recommends light pressure, and warns that the drill can twist sharply if a bit binds, chips clog the hole or the bit breaks through. Secure the work and follow the instructions. Hammer mode does not make this an SDS rotary hammer or give it a chipping function.

What the R kit adds to the XPH10Z drill

The exact XPH10R Includes list names two 2.0Ah BL1820B packs and one DC18RC charger, as well as the belt hook and tool case; Makita's parts list independently labels the case, charger and two battery sets as XPH10R standard equipment. The kit image is a useful visual check, but its text list—not the photograph—supports the exact quantities and model names. If comparing offers, read the suffix carefully: XPH10Z is a different tool-only purchase with no included battery or charger. Conversely, the XPH10R assessment should not be used to infer that a Z listing includes two packs, a charger or a case.

Two 2.0Ah batteries give the kit two packs of a named LXT format, but that capacity is not a runtime measurement. The manual names supported standard battery cartridges and cautions that pack specifications can vary by country; verify the battery and charger model labels for the particular tool and region. The product page describes the XPH10 as a brushed motor. A buyer who specifically needs a brushless motor should not treat “compact” or the LXT platform as a substitute for checking that attribute.

Weight and reach are not bare-tool measurements

Makita gives 7-3/4 in as overall length. Neither the product page nor manual calls that a tool-head length, so it cannot satisfy a strict six-inch head measurement requirement. The product page gives 3.4 lb with a battery, while the manual lists 3.4 or 3.9 lb depending on the battery cartridge. No bare-tool weight is established by those figures. When planning access, allow for the chuck, bit, hand, selected pack and a safe drilling angle rather than treating overall body length as the complete working clearance.

The main case for XPH10R is the combination of a manual-documented hammer mode, 1/2-in chuck, and a precisely listed kit with two named batteries and a charger. The compromises are that it is brushed, the included packs are 2.0Ah, and the maker's dimensions and weight do not answer bare-tool or head-clearance questions. This is a source-based comparison, not a hands-on review: no use, ownership, testing, runtime measurement, price check, or retailer-stock claim is made.
