Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What is included with the exact DCD806B package?
The US product page lists one DCD806 hammer drill and one belt hook. It says the battery and charger are sold separately; no bag is named in the listed contents. Treat a seller’s separate bundle as a different offer and check its exact label.
Explore this need in the finder →What does the DCD806 anti-rotation system do, and what does it not do?
Its manual says the system senses tool motion and can shut the drill down; a red indicator lights when engaged. The instructions still require a controlled grip, supported work and attention to stall risk. It is not a substitute for safe handling.
Explore this need in the finder →Does a 1/2-in chuck mean it is recommended for 1/2-in masonry holes?
No. The chuck capacity is for bit-shank fit. DEWALT’s DCD806 manual table lists a 1/4-in carbide masonry bit, alongside separate recommended sizes for wood and metal bit types. Those are manufacturer recommendations, not independently tested results.

The DCD806B is a brushless 20V MAX XR 1/2-in hammer drill in a tool-only package. This assessment is based on its US product page, the manual that page links, the captured DEWALT hammer-drill listing and a dated safety-index check. No sample was bought, handled or tested; claims about output, runtime, comfort and durability are not independent measurements.
A bare tool with a specific safety feature
The exact B-suffix listing includes one DCD806 drill and a belt hook. DEWALT says the battery and charger are sold separately. It is therefore a sensible configuration to compare if compatible DEWALT 20V MAX batteries and a charger are already in the workshop, but it is not a complete battery-and-charger kit. The page does not list a case. Check the seller’s written package contents rather than assuming a neighboring model’s kit bag or battery applies.
One meaningful distinction in the documentation is the DCD806’s ANTI-ROTATION system. Its manual says the system senses tool motion and can shut the drill down; a red indicator comes on when it engages. That feature is not a substitute for steady two-hand control, a properly supported workpiece or a suitable accessory, and it does not remove the possibility of a stall. It does give the DCD806 a documented safeguard that is not listed in the DCD805B page and manual reviewed here.
Three operating modes, two gears
The manual’s mode chart identifies DCD806 drilling, screwdriving positions 1–14 and hammer drilling. The numbered positions adjust screwdriving torque; they are not extra speed settings. DEWALT gives two speed ranges, 0–650 and 0–2,000 rpm, and directs users to stop the motor before changing the gear selector. In drilling and hammer-drilling modes, the clutch does not protect against overload. The manual warns that a stalled drill can twist suddenly, so keep a firm grip and secure the work instead of forcing a bit through resistance.
The metal ratcheting chuck accepts shanks up to 1/2 in. That is a bit-fit dimension, not a universal hole-size promise. DEWALT’s manual table gives maximum-recommended sizes by bit and material: for example, up to 1-1/2 in wood auger or paddle bits, 1 in wood twist bits, 2-9/16 in self-feed bits and 3 in hole saws. Its listed metal limits include a 1/2-in twist bit and 1-1/2-in hole saw. For masonry, the DCD806 column lists a 1/4-in carbide bit. These are the manufacturer’s recommendations, not results measured for this review; the bit, material, gear and instructions still matter.
Performance copy needs its conditions
The page calls this DEWALT’s most powerful 20V MAX two-speed hammer drill and advertises up to 175 holes per charge. Its footnote ties that hole count to a DCB2104 battery, a 7/8-in auger and 1-1/2-in SPF lumber. A different battery, bit, wood or drilling pattern does not inherit that result. The page also makes a relative power comparison, but this review has not reproduced its setup or measured output. I would treat those statements as manufacturer claims, not as a prediction of how many holes a buyer will drill on a job.
Light, access and handling
DEWALT specifies an adjustable three-position LED with up to 70 lumens; the manual describes off, on and a 20-minute worklight mode. That is a useful feature for dim work areas, but the manual also warns against staring into the beam and says to place the tool securely if using it as a light. The product page’s dimensions and marketing language should not be stretched into a guarantee that the entire drill, battery, hand and bit will fit a tight cabinet or framing bay. Measure the real approach path and allow room to keep the tool aligned.
DEWALT’s 20V MAX name refers to maximum initial battery voltage, not a separate nominal voltage. Match the pack and charger markings to the manufacturer’s compatibility information. Do not infer battery interchangeability from a similar-looking slide rail or from another brand’s adapter.
Who should compare DCD806B?
This exact package is worth considering when a 1/2-in chuck, hammer-drill mode and the documented anti-rotation function matter, and the buyer already has the required DEWALT battery and charger. Someone starting the platform should compare battery-included kits instead. If hammer action is not needed, a drill/driver can avoid paying for an unused mode; if the task requires repeated heavy concrete drilling, this manual and product page alone do not establish that a hammer drill is the right tool class.
The DEWALT US safety-notice snapshot checked for this assessment did not display a DCD806 entry. That is a dated observation of one index, not a safety certification or a promise about later notices. Before choosing, confirm the exact DCD806B marking, package suffix, current notice status, compatible battery and manual limits. Loaded speed, torque, noise, balance, vibration, temperature and service life were not independently measured.
