A useful fit for

A 20V MAX tool-only drill/driver for someone who values a removable 1/2-in metal chuck plus right-angle, offset and quick-release head arrangements in one package.

The main tradeoff

Battery and charger are not included. The manual's drilling capacities apply to the 1/2-in chuck attachment, while its other head/spindle columns are marked screwdriving only; the manual lists no hammer mode, and complete working dimensions and tool-only weight are unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What comes with the exact DCD803B package?

The US manufacturer page lists the DCD803 power unit, one each 1/2-in metal chuck, 1/4-in hex right-angle, quick-release offset and quick-release head, one organizer and two belt hooks. It says battery and charger are sold separately and the case field says no case is included.

Can every included head be treated as a drilling chuck?

No. The manual's maximum-recommended-capacity table gives bit-drilling sizes in the 1/2-in chuck-attachment column and marks the right-angle, quick-release, offset and direct hex-spindle columns screwdriving-only. Do not carry the chuck's hole-size figures over to those interfaces.

Is the DCD803B suitable when hammer-drilling mode is essential?

No. Its Type 1 manual lists drilling and screwdriving modes, not hammer drilling. Treat masonry hammer mode as a separate required capability and compare an exact model whose manual documents it.

Research-based assessment · exact DEWALT US DCD803B page, Type 1 manual, category entry and product image checked 28 October 2026

The DCD803B is a 20V MAX brushless multi-head drill/driver sold as a tool-only package. Its distinguishing idea is not a special motor rating I can verify in use, but the set of detachable heads that lets one power unit switch between a conventional chuck and several hex-drive arrangements. This is an assessment of manufacturer documentation and the exact US listing, not a hands-on review; the tool was not purchased, operated, weighed or measured.

What the B package actually includes

DEWALT lists one DCD803 power unit, one 1/2-in metal chuck attachment, one 1/4-in hex right-angle attachment, one 1/4-in hex quick-release offset attachment, one 1/4-in hex quick-release attachment, an attachment organizer and two belt hooks. The page calls it tool-only and says the battery and charger are sold separately; its case field says no case is included. This is a useful distinction from the DCD703F1 12V multi-head kit, which comes with a battery and charger but uses a smaller 3/8-in chuck. Check the exact DCD803B suffix and written package list rather than treating every multi-head DeWALT kit as the same purchase.

One power unit, several different interfaces

The 1/2-in metal chuck is the straightforward choice for drilling with bits whose shanks fit its keyless capacity. The other heads are for access and fastening arrangements: a right-angle head changes the approach direction, the offset head is aimed at working near obstructions, and the quick-release head accepts 1/4-in hex accessories. The power unit also holds a 1/4-in hex bit directly at its magnetic spindle. DEWALT describes the included attachments as usable one at a time on the right-angle attachment, and the manual says to use only heads designed for and compatible with this power unit. That flexibility comes with a setup check: stop, remove the battery before changing heads, lock the tool off, and confirm the yellow connection indicator is hidden before operation.

The manual’s maximum-recommended-capacity table is especially important here. It gives drilling sizes for the separate chuck attachment: up to 1-1/4 in for an auger bit, 1-1/2 in for a paddle bit, 1/2 in for a wood twist bit, 2-1/8 in for a self-feed bit, 2-1/4 in for a hole saw, and 3/8 in for a metal twist bit. The table marks the right-angle, quick-release, offset and direct hex-spindle columns “screwdriving only.” These are manufacturer recommendations, not results from independent drilling tests, and the chuck figures should not be carried over to the 1/4-in hex setups. For the quick-release chuck, the manual also warns to use impact accessories and limits bit-tip length to 1 in; that describes accessory compatibility, not an impact-driver mode for the tool.

Controls and limits

The product page lists a two-speed transmission, 15 clutch settings, a keyless chuck and a 1,650-rpm maximum/no-load-speed value. The manual describes speed 1 as the higher-torque setting and speed 2 as the higher-speed setting, but it does not supply separate numeric ranges. Its clutch collar has positions 1–15 for screwdriving, while the drilling position does not clutch. Start with a low clutch setting and test on scrap or an inconspicuous area, as DEWALT advises. There is no hammer-drilling mode in the DCD803 manual, so choose a different exact model if impact action for masonry is essential.

The manual warns that overloading can stall the drill and create a sudden twisting reaction. It says to clamp the work, keep pressure in line with the bit, and release the trigger immediately if the drill stalls. The 1/2-in chuck does not make every 1/2-in hole appropriate for this tool; bit type, material, speed, grip and the manufacturer’s specific capacity table matter. The head attachments add geometry to the setup, so leave room for your hand, battery and the selected bit as well as the head itself.

Fit, battery and comparison checks

The exact product page includes assembled-product weight and length fields without a clear tool-only or installed-head basis. I do not use those numbers as the DCD803B’s tool weight or head length. The DCD803 Type 1 manual likewise does not give a model-specific clearance length for each attachment. The manufacturer’s “compact” positioning and a right-angle head may help with access, but they cannot confirm that a particular drill-and-bit setup will fit behind a cabinet or between studs. Measure that space and compare it with the complete selected arrangement.

The tool-only suffix is best suited to someone who already has a compatible DEWALT 20V MAX pack and charger or is prepared to source them separately. The manual has a specific list of compatible battery and charger models, so verify the markings against that list rather than assuming every pack or adapter works. Compared with the fixed-chuck DCD801B, the DCD803B adds several access heads but also adds setup choices; compared with the DCD703F1, it is a 20V package with a 1/2-in chuck attachment, but lacks the 12V kit’s included battery and charger. Neither comparison predicts runtime or real-world output.

Who should consider it?

Consider this exact package if a 20V MAX drill/driver, conventional 1/2-in chuck and multiple 1/4-in hex access arrangements are all useful, and you can provide the compatible battery and charger. A fixed-head drill is simpler if you do not expect to change arrangements; a battery-included kit is more complete if you are starting a platform. Pass if you need hammer drilling, a supplied battery or case, a confirmed tool-head measurement, or drilling-capacity claims for the hex heads. Before buying, confirm the B suffix, the package list, the battery and charger markings, the bit interface and the manual’s limits for your intended material and setup.
