Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What equipment comes with the DCD1007B?
The exact US Includes list names the DCD1007 drill, a side handle and a belt hook. The page says battery and charger are sold separately; no case is listed in the package bullets.
Explore this need in the finder →Which DCD1007 modes are documented, and when does the clutch work?
The Type 1 manual documents drilling, screwdriving positions 1-11 and hammer drilling across three speed settings. It says the clutch is inactive in drill and hammer modes, warns that overload can cause a sudden twist, and directs the user to control the tool with the side handle.
Explore this need in the finder →Are the DCD1007's 2,100 in-lb and 275-hole statements independent test results?
No. They are manufacturer claims. The hole count is footnoted to a DCB2108 pack, a 7/8-in auger and 1-1/2-in-thick fir; neither statement is a test performed for this assessment.
Explore this need in the finder →Bottom line: the DCD1007B is the bare-tool version of DEWALT’s 20V MAX XR brushless three-speed hammer drill. It is a plausible choice when a 1/2-inch chuck, a real hammer-drilling setting and a compatible DEWALT battery system are all useful—and you already have the battery and charger. This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on test.
What the B package actually contains
The exact US product page calls this a tool-only SKU, says its battery and charger are sold separately, and lists the DCD1007 drill, side handle and belt hook. The page does not list a case or a battery. The side handle matters: DEWALT’s manual describes this as a high-torque drill and directs the operator to hold the main and side handles to control reaction. This is not a stripped version that should be run one-handed just because it arrives without a battery.
There are nearby but distinct DCD1007 suffixes. DCD1007BLR is the tool-only version explicitly advertised with a LANYARD READY attachment point. DCD1007WW1 is the kit with one DCB2108 8Ah battery and a charger. The B package should not be priced or assessed as though either extra is included. Before ordering, compare the model suffix and the seller’s written package list, not just the shared DCD1007 name.
Drill, driver and hammer-drill roles
The page identifies a brushless 20V MAX machine with a keyless 1/2-inch ratcheting nitro-carburized metal chuck and carbide inserts. DEWALT’s page-linked Type 1 manual documents three speed settings and three collar modes: ordinary drilling, screwdriving with settings 1–11, and hammer drilling. These functions can suit a mixed job list, but the clutch is not active in drill or hammer mode. DEWALT warns that an overloaded tool can stall and twist suddenly; fit the side handle, secure the workpiece, and stop to change gears rather than shifting while the motor runs.
The manual’s “maximum recommended capacities” table gives the DCD1007 column as 1-1/2 inches for wood auger and paddle bits, 1 inch for wood twist bits, 3-5/8 inches for wood self-feed bits and 5 inches for wood hole saws. For sheet metal it lists a 1/2-inch twist bit, 4-inch hole saw and #9 (1-1/8-inch) step bit; it also lists a 1-inch carbide-tipped cutter for plate steel and a 1/2-inch carbide percussion bit for masonry. These are maker recommendations for particular bit classes, not independent tests or a promise for every wood, metal, concrete, bit or workload. A 1/2-inch chuck figure describes shank capacity—not the diameter it can bore in every material.
Controls and claims to interpret carefully
The manufacturer describes an ANTI-ROTATION system that senses excessive rotational motion and shuts the tool down, with an indicator when it engages. The manual separately documents the Tool Connect chip-ready location; the chip is optional, so tracking is not built in. A pivoting three-position LED is another documented convenience. DEWALT advertises 2,100 in-lb maximum brake torque and up to 275 holes per charge, but the latter is tied to a DCB2108 battery and a 7/8-inch auger in 1-1/2-inch fir. Neither statement is our measurement, and the hole-count example should not be generalized to other batteries or materials.
Structured product-page speed fields are not consistent across DCD1007 suffix pages: the B and WW1 records show 2,000 rpm while the BLR record shows 2,250 rpm; the shared manual confirms three gears but does not provide numerical gear ranges. I therefore do not use one maximum-RPM figure to distinguish these packages. The separate assembled-size fields are also not a verified operating weight or clearance measurement. If a cramped work area is the deciding factor, check the physical tool with its battery, bit, hands and approach angle rather than inferring clearance from the 1/2-inch chuck or a package listing.
Who should shortlist it?
Keep the DCD1007B on the list if you can supply a compatible 20V MAX battery and charger, want the documented hammer mode as well as drilling and screwdriving, and value the included side handle for controlled work. Look at DCD1007WW1 instead if an included 8Ah pack and charger matter more than buying tool-only. If a built-in tether attachment is essential for a work-at-height process, compare the BLR SKU rather than assuming the B has that feature. For masonry, follow the manual’s percussion-bit and handling instructions; a hammer drill is not the same tool class as an SDS rotary hammer for sustained concrete drilling. The right purchase depends on that distinction and the battery equipment you already own, not an advertised torque number by itself.
