A useful fit for

A fit to assess for an existing Bosch 12V Max owner who wants a brushless ordinary drill/driver with a 3/8-in chuck and a manufacturer-stated 6.0-in head.

The main tradeoff

The exact N package excludes battery and charger, does not meet a 1/2-in chuck requirement, has no documented hammer mode, and Bosch manual revisions conflict on wood and screw maxima.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What does the GSR12V-300N package include?

Bosch lists one GSR12V-300 drill/driver, a magnetic four-tip bit holder, four Impact Tough bits and a belt clip. Its exact page says battery and charger are not included and no case is included.

Can the GSR12V-300N clamp a 1/2-in bit?

No. Bosch specifies a three-jaw keyless 3/8-in chuck, below the 1/2-in shank-capacity threshold. Chuck opening is not a material-specific hole-size promise.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the GSR12V-300N provide hammer-drill mode?

No hammer-drilling mode is documented for the GSR12V-300 drill/driver. Bosch’s later multi-model manual distinguishes the GSR drill/driver from the separate GSB hammer drill; do not transfer the GSB mode to the GSR.

This is a desk-based assessment of Bosch’s exact U.S. GSR12V-300N page, its linked operating instructions, a later Bosch manual revision and current category evidence. No ownership, hands-on evaluation or performance testing is claimed.

The N suffix is the bare-tool purchase

Bosch lists the GSR12V-300N as a 12V Max EC Brushless 3/8-in drill/driver and labels this exact retail package a bare tool. Its written Includes list is one GSR12V-300 drill/driver, a magnetic four-tip bit holder, four Impact Tough bits and a belt clip. The technical table says the battery and charger are not included and no case is included. This is not the same purchase as the GSR12V-300B22 kit: that separately listed SKU includes two 2.0Ah packs, a charger and a bag. The model stem describes the shared drill; the suffix defines the box to assess.

The Bosch product URL and SKU field identify 06019H8016, while the spare-parts panel displays 3601JH8010. Those are not interchangeable retail names. The N appears in Bosch’s current eight-item U.S. 12V Max drill/driver subcategory. The wider drill/driver listing still reports more products than its captured cards, so this individual assessment does not claim that the broader Bosch catalogue has been closed.

A conventional 3/8-in drill/driver, not the GSB hammer drill

The N’s front end is a three-jaw, keyless 3/8-in chuck. That gives it a different interface from a 1/4-in hex driver: it can clamp compatible round-shank drill bits up to the stated chuck size, but it does not meet this finder’s 1/2-in chuck requirement. Chuck opening describes bit-shank fit, not a hole diameter the tool can make in every material.

The manual distinction matters. Bosch’s later multi-model GSR12V-300 manual shows both a GSB12V-300 cordless hammer drill and a GSR12V-300 cordless drill/driver, with separate illustrations and specifications. The hammer-mode ring belongs to the GSB illustration; the GSR illustration is the drill/driver arrangement. This GSR12V-300N page names the GSR, and the manual directly linked from it is the GSR drill/driver manual. Do not transfer the GSB’s hammer capability to this model. The N is appropriate to consider for ordinary drilling and screwdriving, not as an answer to essential masonry hammer mode.

Published figures need their context

Bosch states an EC brushless motor, up to 300 in-lb torque, two no-load ranges of 0–460 and 0–1,750 rpm, variable speed, reverse, an LED work light and 20+1 clutch settings. The extra “+1” is the drill setting rather than another numbered screwdriving position. These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements of loaded speed, runtime, torque consistency or fastener results. They help describe the control layout, but do not predict performance in a particular material or with a particular bit.

There is a useful manual caveat for capacity comparisons. The 2018 GSR12V-300 manual linked on the exact page lists 9/32-in screw size and 3/4-in wood; Bosch’s later 2020 GSR12V-300 manual gives 5/16-in screw size and 1-1/4-in wood. Both list 3/8-in mild-metal drilling. Since the maker’s two manual versions disagree, this review does not select one wood or screw-size maximum as definitive. Check the exact current instruction revision supplied for the tool; neither page is a guarantee for every bit, stock or technique.

Six inches is a head claim, not a clearance promise

Bosch expressly calls out a 6.0-in head length and 1.6-lb tool-only weight. The head figure reaches the finder’s inclusive six-inch cutoff, but it does not include a bit projecting from the chuck, the battery or the space needed for a hand and approach angle. Likewise, the weight is without a pack, not a ready-to-use kit weight. The technical table separately labels overall length as 6 in, which does not replace a workspace check around a cabinet, joist or fixture.

Plan for power and accessories separately

The GSR12V-300N is a Bosch 12V Max battery-platform tool, but this SKU supplies neither a battery nor a charger. Its listed four-tip holder, four bits and belt clip do not make it ready to run. If you already own a Bosch 12V pack, verify the exact battery and charger models against current Bosch instructions rather than assuming compatibility from the voltage label alone. The package page does not identify included pack or charger models because none is listed.

For a buyer starting without that system, compare the exact B22 kit as a distinct option rather than silently adding its two batteries, charger or bag to the N. The B22’s written list states two 2.0Ah batteries, while the N page says not included. Either way, confirm the seller’s suffix and exact box. The evidence here establishes manufacturer-published contents and claims, not current seller stock, price, condition or carton integrity.

Assessment

The GSR12V-300N is a well-defined bare-tool configuration to consider if a buyer already has a currently compatible Bosch 12V Max battery system and wants a brushless, two-speed drill/driver with a conventional 3/8-in chuck. Its stated six-inch head sits at the short-head boundary; its speed, clutch and motor claims make its intended control features legible on paper. Tradeoffs are equally plain: the battery and charger are separate, its chuck is smaller than 1/2 in, hammer mode is not documented for the GSR, and the wood/screw capacity statements vary between Bosch manual revisions. This is a research-based assessment of the documented edition, not a field test or recommendation based on personal use.
