Bosch GRD18V-127HXN 18V right-angle drill review

A 7/16-in hex quick-chuck right-angle drill, assessed with a conspicuous conflict in the exact manufacturer's package list.

Sources checked 2026-11-01 · Our editorial approach

Manufacturer-source assessment only. The exact U.S. page identifies GRD18V-127HXN / 06019N5110, but its Includes line names a different 1/2-in GRD18V-127 body. See the review's package-check section before treating an offer as the HXN configuration.

A useful fit for

Worth assessing when the intended job calls for a dedicated right-angle drill, a 7/16-in hex-shank bit interface and an already verified Bosch 18V/AMPShare battery setup; confirm this exact bare-tool listing and its approved pack/charger list first.

The main tradeoff

The 7/16-in hex interface fails a 1/2-in shank requirement, the cited instructions document no hammer-drilling mode or screwdriving clutch, no battery/charger/case is listed, and the exact page's included-tool model line conflicts with the HXN/HX specifications.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the GRD18V-127HXN accept a 1/2-in round-shank bit?

No, not as documented. Bosch lists a 7/16-in quick chuck and the family manual identifies a 7/16-in hex-keyless interface. That is below a 1/2-in shank requirement; the manual does not support substituting a keyed 1/2-in GRD18V-127 chuck.

Does this HXN bare-tool listing include a battery and charger?

Bosch labels the HXN listing a bare tool and does not list a battery, charger or case. It lists a belt clip, but the included-tool line conflicts by naming the separate GRD18V-127 1/2-in model. Check the actual model and exact package rather than assuming the copy is corrected.

Can this drill use an integrated hammer mode for masonry?

The HXN page and the linked GRD18V-127HX family instructions document drilling, two speed ranges and kickback control, not hammer-drilling mode. Choose a documented hammer drill if percussion is essential.

Bosch Professional · current-reference U.S. package · documentary review

The Bosch GRD18V-127HXN is presented on Bosch's U.S. site as an 18V bare-tool right-angle drill. Its stated interface is the detail that most sharply separates it from the GRD18V-127N: this HXN page says 7/16-in quick chuck, while Bosch's separate 127N page describes a keyed 1/2-in chuck. That is a meaningful bit-shank difference, not a minor suffix or color variation. There is, however, a serious product-page conflict about the HXN's included body, so this review treats the model as assessable but asks buyers to verify the exact item before relying on the package description.

The 7/16-in hex interface is not a half-inch keyed chuck

On the exact HXN page, Bosch repeatedly describes a 7/16-in quick chuck, including in its title, feature list and technical data. Bosch's February 2025 GRD family instructions distinguish the keyed 1/2-in GRD18V-127 from the 7/16-in hex-keyless GRD18V-127HX and show a different bit-changing procedure for each. The HX instructions say to insert a hex-shank bit until the collar clicks. The exact HXN page ties that HX variant to the U.S. retail model; the manual itself does not print the full HXN suffix.

For shopping fit, do not treat 7/16-in hex as a 1/2-in chuck opening. A 1/2-in round shank exceeds this documented interface; GRD18V-127N is the separate keyed model. HXN may suit a job needing the right-angle form and compatible 7/16-in hex bits, but that shank-fit claim says nothing about hole diameter or material capacity.

Two speed ranges and right-angle drilling, not an all-purpose hammer drill

The exact page lists a brushless motor, two speed settings, variable speed, reverse, LED work light and Dual KickBack Control; the manual's HX column gives no-load ranges of 0–550 and 0–1,800 rpm. It describes drilling in wood, metal, ceramic and plastic, not integrated hammer mode or a screwdriving clutch. This is a dedicated right-angle drill, not a drill/driver with percussion.

The HX manual table and HXN page highlights give maker-stated maxima, including 3-1/4-in wood, 1/2-in mild metal, 2-9/16-in holes with self-feed bits and 5-in hole saws. These are not our test results or universal promises; the manual includes an 8Ah CORE18V note, while the bare-tool HXN page lists no pack. Do not infer that an 8Ah battery is included.

The manual warns that a bound bit can create high reaction torque, advises bracing the tool and securing work, and describes kickback hazards. Bosch says the electronic control helps reduce sudden reactions; it does not remove the need for safe setup and the prescribed handle.

Published overall size does not settle clearance

Bosch lists 16.6 in length, 7.4 in height and 3.6 in width, plus a 6.8 lb weight. Those are catalog fields: the page does not identify the 16.6-in figure as head length, and Bosch does not state the weight basis. We have not weighed the tool or measured its working envelope with a bit and battery. A right-angle drive can make an assembly useful where a conventional pistol-grip drill does not point conveniently, but the number needed to judge a cramped opening is not established here. Check the whole drill, your hand position, auxiliary grip, bit and installed battery against the actual space.

Resolve the package line before treating it as an exact HXN offer

Bosch's exact U.S. route identifies model HXN and part 06019N5110; its title and specifications say 7/16-in bare tool. The page lists a belt clip, no case and no battery or charger. Yet its Includes line names a GRD18V-127 18V 1/2-in drill. The manual makes the conflict material: GRD18V-127 has a keyed 1/2-in chuck; GRD18V-127HX has a 7/16-in hex-keyless interface.

The linked image shows a right-angle body but cannot settle the written contents. Bosch's 2025 announcement names a 127 bare tool and 127HX kit, not the current HXN suffix. The evidence supports assessing a distinct HXN entry and its HX-family function, not silently editing its Includes line. Compare model and part number on the offer and carton, verify the actual chuck body and check the seller's return terms if it differs.

A separate Bosch GRD18V-127HXB26X kit page lists a GRD18V-127HX body with two EXBA18V-60 batteries and a GAL12V/18V-80 charger; its spare-parts panel reports order number 3601JN5110, also shown on the HXN page. That is additional evidence linking the underlying HX body family, not proof that the HXN bare-tool page's conflicting Includes line is correct or permission to transfer the kit contents into an HXN offer.

Who should keep it on a shortlist?

Keep HXN in consideration only if its 7/16-in hex interface, right-angle form and Bosch 18V/AMPShare system fit the task, and the offered package is confirmed. If 1/2-in keyed jaws are essential, the reviewed GRD18V-127N is the separate interface. If multiple working heads and a kit package matter more, GSR18V-535FCB15 is a different FlexiClick drill/driver with its own limitations, not a dedicated GRD body.

The 18V label does not replace the manual's exact approved battery/charger list. Bosch labels this a bare tool; identify the exact pack and charger before use. Current-reference status describes the observed U.S. catalogue, not stock. This assessment uses published sources, not hands-on use or comparative testing.
